An Olympic-style competition featuring the world’s best
players competing for their country to determine which nation
reigns superior sounds like a perfect celebration of baseball.
But the World Baseball Classic has already endured a few hiccups,
including the U.S. government’s initial rejection of Cuba,
some big name players bowing out, and A-Rod’s endless
indecision as to which country, if any, he will represent.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX
Absolutely. With their first title since 1917 in hand, they
have only gotten better. They re-signed Paul Konerko, replaced
Carl Everett with Jim Thome, and added pitcher Javier Vazquez
to an already potent rotation. Their closest division rivals,
the Twins and Indians, haven’t done enough to keep up.
The Sox could waltz through the AL Central easily, and once
you’re in the playoffs anything can happen.

Rollins enters the season on a 36-game hitting streak. Tejada
has played in 918 straight games. Ichiro will try for 6 straight

NATIONAL LEAGUE WORST
Will the National League West again be the National League Worst?
If they stay reasonably healthy, the Giants are the team to
beat in the NL West. They are the most balanced from top to
bottom, and have a deep rotation, bullpen, and bench. But the
caveat “if they stay healthy” is huge for a team
as old as San Francisco.
